This is a big mistake.
If you’re introductory email is a cold pitch it’s like pressing a business card into someone’s hand during your first meeting.

Establish the foundation for being a connected, influential blogger with a raving friend and fan base by befriending fellow bloggers before you ask them to help you.
Although no specific timetable exists for how long it takes to build a blogging friendship I suggest following these tips for 4 to 8 weeks before you reach out with a pitch/ask email.
Each of these 10 strategies collectively set the table for me being featured on 200 plus blogs.

1: Blog Commenting

Comment on authority blogs to build your outreach campaign on a foundation of value.
Blog commenting opened doors for me leading to:

A running guest posting gig at Blogging Tips Dot Com
Comment intelligently to make an impact.

Here’s one of my sample comments on a recent Pro Blogger article (the full comment actually spans 3 more paragraphs):
Craft a 3 to 4 paragraph, thorough piece of content to build bonds with influential bloggers.
Add value to the post to become valuable to influential bloggers.
Publish comments on relevant, authority blogs to leverage your outreach campaign effectively.

2: Personalized Emails

Email bloggers 1 to 1 to build the strongest bonds.

Danny Flood has mastered the email aspect of blogger outreach.
Any email he’s sent me is personalized, professional and stresses the benefits of partnering with him on some blogging initiative.

Don’t ignore the power of direct messages on Twitter.
I’ve landed interviews on podcasts and popular blogs through this channel.
Message new followers on Twitter to form bonds. Personalize interactions.
Ask how you can help your fellow bloggers.
Link to your blog home page to show off the quality and depth of your work.
When you reach out to your fellow blogger be brief. Most tweeters appreciate short, clear and concise messages to see if your offering matches the needs of their audience.

4: In Person Meet Ups

If you live within driving distance of a fellow blogger schedule an in person meet up.
Attend live events to strengthen connections with influencers.
One in person, offline meeting makes a greater impact than 30 online engagements.
Here’s why: humans connect with other human beings. Reading a message on Facebook is quite unlike sitting down to lunch with Zac Johnson.
Meet bloggers live and in the flesh to supercharge your blogger outreach campaign.

5: Link to Other Bloggers
Bring your old – and new – blogging friends along for the ride.
Link to other bloggers in your blog posts.
Neil Patel is one of the most skilled bloggers in this department.
He links in to bloggers regularly to give them props and to form friendships with other influencers.
Neil linked to Brian Dean’s SEO copywriting blog post to offer a valued resource to his readers.
Shouting out Brian helps to build a bond between the 2 bloggers.
Promoting other bloggers gives them props. Bloggers love generous bloggers.

6: Tag on Social Media

Tag bloggers you’ve featured on your blog through social media sites like:

Google Plus

Tagging gives fellow bloggers props and also expands their presence online.

7: Facebook Messages

Facebook messages operate similar to Twitter direct messages.
Open doors to new friendships through this communication medium.
Consider helping an influential blogger by respond to questions on their Facebook Group. Follow up with a personalized Facebook message to increase engagement with active group members.
I consistently stop by Elizabeth Kelsey Bradley’s Blogging Boost Group on Facebook to respond to blogging questions.
Sometimes a blogger may ask me for more details to help them. I then move the conversation to Facebook messaging.
Help out successful bloggers by assisting in the growth of their community and ease your fellow blogger’s pain points. Impress influencers and newbie bloggers alike to set the table for a strong blogger outreach campaign.

8: Endorse or Write Favorable Reviews

Endorse your successful blogging buddies through:
Testimonials published on their blogs
Amazon eBook reviews
Online course reviews
Set aside time to write thoughtful, helpful, positive reviews your blogger’s products and services.
Maintain your credibility by using the product or reading the eBook. Only write endorsements for bloggers whose services you’ve used.
Endorsing a talented fellow blogger forms a powerful bond you can’t quite recreate through other techniques.
Shout out your blogging buddy to make a friend for life.

9: Run Frequent Free Giveaways

Being generous with my eBooks has opened countless outreach doors for me.
Write free eBook or give away your premium eBooks for a week at a time. Offer free access to a paid audio course for a few days.
Build bonds with fellow bloggers by offering them your best work for free.
The long term effects of such a helpful, genuine approach to blogger outreach is quite astounding because it establishes the framework for a huge, targeted email list and an equally monstrously large friend network.

10: The Most Important Tip: Think Long Term

I spoke to a social media influencer recently.
He’s built one of the more highly engaged Twitter followings I have ever seen.
